Security Deposit

I ha been renting out my property through an agent for the last 4 years. The long term tenants recently left and on the exit inventory, there were a lot of comments on marks and dentsvon walls, dirty carpets etc needing "to be made good" and it states the cost should be to the tenants. As a result, the agent organised contractors to repaint the walls (badly), and had to replace carpets because they were deemed too dirty to be cleaned. The total cost far exceeded the security deposit. As a landlord, am I soley responsible for the difference in cost?
Can I consider making a claim off my insurance as accidental damage, which it does cover? Is it worth it?
