Price comparison website said that people requesting information on buy-to-let mortgages accounted for 14 per cent of all mortgage advice requests in March.

Only first-time buyer (40 per cent), remortgage (28 per cent) and residential mortgage (23 per cent) information proved more popular, leaving buy-to-let mortgage advice fourth on a list of ten guidance sections.

Karen Barrett, chief executive of, said the popularity of first-time buyer advice could be attributed to the recent doubling of the stamp duty threshold for those purchasing their first property, which means there has never been a greater incentive for them to purchase a property.

"It is essential that both first-time buyers and those looking to remortgage seek professional advice to ensure they are making the best decisions for their individual circumstances," she said.
